Homegrown Music

Read one of my blog entries about homegrown music. Back in the day, we called it Basement Jammin'. HERE, you'll find all you need, to make your own instruments and learn how to play them. Have a jammin' great time!

Ever heard of a Hurdy-Gurdy? Neither did I, so, when I found this site I just had to put it in here so we could all find out what it is.

If you've ever been to one of the popular Folk Festivals, you might have seen and heard someone playing a musical saw. Get an excellent demonstration of it here at MusicalSaw.com. I've heard them played many times while visiting The Hay Creek Festival near my hometown. They have a quite unusual sound. They can be homemade, but for quality tone, you'll want to purchase a good one if you intend to learn to play.

Another popular instument played at Folf Festivals, the dulcimer ! Although I haven't had much time to play lately, it is my favorite instrument of all times. I only have a very cheap model. They can get pretty elaborate. Some reasons why I like them so much is that they can be strummed, picked, hammered, and, I've even heard one person good enough to bow them. I also do not read notes. If you have a knack for keeping a melody in your head, you can play a dulcimer without ever learning how to read notes or learn chords, although you can make them sound much better if you do. If ever you decide to try to play a dulcimer, please check out Everything Dulcimers !

If you want to see the most unusual collection of homegrown music in the world, please check this next site out. I must give credit when it's due. These people are extremely talented. You will find simply loads of the weirdest exotic photos and possibly get some ideas of your own for a wonderful new hobby, the art of homegrown music! Other Places to listen to free music

Songs to wear pants to......... They have some pretty good stuff that's free. I'm sure if you check it out further you will find music to buy also. I didn't get too far with this one. My taste in music varies and I have a lot of sites I listen to often.

Soul Patrol is a radio station you can literally leave on all day while you're working on other stuff on the web. A vast ammount of soul music mixed with blues and jazz. They also have pages you can open that will play particular artist's music, and, also some rock. Best to leave it at the start page unless you're searching for something particular. The more you click through their pages, the more the chances of losing the broadcast. Right now, they have an awesome tribute to New Orleans. The aniversary of the Katrina disaster is coming up. Check out the Entertainment page here at Dimensionality to watch some of the video footage of the aftermath.

Download free music at Kazaa ! Yep, there's still a free version for you. You can choose to upgrade which will definitely give you more choices and variety, but the free version works just fine. I have not heard many complaints about their site and personally never had any problems with it, other than, I always have to turn Norton off during my download sessions. I think it's because it has it's own anti virus program which interferes with it.

Okay, I was just checking out ABC Radio . They have some of each genre if you include the area for " New Music". The country is mostly the older stuff but sometimes that's exactly what I want to hear so for me it's all good. The classical selection is pretty good and the jazz can hold it's own as well. Your kind of up the creek in most locals if you're looking for a station close to home. All in all, it's pretty good there. See what you think. ABC Radio: Listen Online !

I don't know how it's possible I overlooked this one before but there's a real decent variety at I Radio. Do some searching first making sure to check for local or free according to what you like or need most and then go for the genre after you looked around a bit but there's not much if anything that you can't find through this site. Enjoy!

Here's Windows Media Guide. Some awesome profile pages in there. Go check out the latest videos.

AOL just launched their new Radio Beta and although I haven't tried it I'm sure it's pretty good. I have so many favorites by now it's hard for me to find time for any newer ones but if you getr the chance why not give them a try?
